Savouring the small things


To work further on my watercolour skills I’ve been painting what’s around in the garden during our delayed spring. My son and I were in the front garden and his attention was taken by the grape hyacinths, or little purple Christmas trees as he calls them! We decided to collect a few bits and pieces to bring inside, so along with the muscari we brought in mint and a single anemone. It was such a tiny bouquet but as it represented a sweet little moment that my son and I had shared I wanted to paint it to retain it in my memory. I don’t normally do such ‘loose’ paintings, but I really enjoyed laying down the colour quickly, and it serves to remind me that it’s worth taking the time to savour the small details.
